Rust Legacy – High-Resolution Map

Hello!

I'm a huge fan of Rust Legacy, and for some time now I've been working on a personal project dedicated to preserving and expanding the experience of this version of the game.

As part of this project, I created an extremely detailed map of the Rust Legacy world.

I'm making several versions of the map available, ranging from compressed files that are easier to view and download, all the way to the original uncompressed file for anyone who wants the highest possible quality.

Complete Rust Legacy Map

This is the complete map of the Rust Legacy world.

The image above was compressed specifically for display inside this guide. For anyone who wants to view the map at a much higher resolution and with less quality loss, I'm also making the original PNG file available.

Rust Legacy - Map Compressed.png [77 MB]

Playable Area Map

This version focuses specifically on the playable area of Rust Legacy with a higher level of detail.

It makes it much easier to inspect the roads, terrain, forest areas, rock formations, buildings, and other features found in the part of the world that is actually used during gameplay.

Just like the complete map, the image shown above was compressed specifically for Steam.

The high-resolution PNG version can be downloaded below.

Rust Legacy - Playable Map Compressed.png [99 MB]

Original Uncompressed Map – BigTIFF

I also created an original version of the complete map without the compression used in the versions above.

Rust Legacy - Map.tif [7,161 MB]

This is the original file used as the basis for the other versions and preserves as much image detail and information as possible.

Due to its size, the file uses the BigTIFF format and needs to be opened with a compatible image viewer or editor.

About My Modified Rust Legacy Project

The map is only a small part of a much larger project I've been working on.

I'm a huge fan of Rust Legacy, and my goal is to develop a modified and highly configurable version of the game while preserving the atmosphere, identity, and much of the experience that made Legacy so special.

My intention is not simply to turn the game into something completely different.

I want to preserve the core feel of Rust Legacy while expanding some of its possibilities, bringing back elements from earlier versions of Rust, and offering much more freedom when it comes to configuration.

The Return of Zombies

One of the things I've always found most interesting about the earliest versions of Rust was the zombies.

Because of that, one of the main goals of this project is to bring back the zombies from the early versions of Rust, without replacing the mutant wolves and bears from Rust Legacy.

The idea is to allow these different types of enemies and animals to coexist in the same world, preserving memorable elements from different periods of the game's history.

A Project Designed to Be Configurable

One of the goals of the project is to make game and server configuration as simple as possible.

A large part of the systems I'm developing have been designed so that changes can be made without having to manually modify large parts of the game.

Spawns, population, loot, resource gathering, and several other systems will be easy to adjust, allowing each server to have its own rules and characteristics.

This means different servers will be able to use the same project as a base while still offering completely different experiences.

One server, for example, could aim for an experience very close to the original Rust Legacy, while another could increase the number of zombies, change the animals found throughout the map, completely alter the loot, modify resource gathering, and create a very different survival experience.

Project Still in Development

The project is still under development, but a significant portion of the systems I originally planned are already working.

So far, I have implemented:

  • Steam Independence
  • Zombies – implementation of zombies from the early versions of Rust
  • Administration System – commands and features such as Fly, God, Speed, and time control
  • Economy System – shop and robbery system
  • Clan System – Friendly Fire, location, and permission system
  • Configurable Population – control over different world spawns and populations
  • Configurable Loot – control over items, quantities, probabilities, and distribution
  • Configurable Gathering – control over resource gathering and acquisition
  • Map – detailed development and documentation of the Rust Legacy map
  • Building Removal System
  • Teleport System
  • Inventory Modernization

Although these systems have already been implemented or are functional, many of them are still going through adjustments, testing, and polishing.

My goal is not just to add features, but to make sure they work together in an integrated, stable, and, most importantly, easy-to-configure way.

There are still improvements and additional features I want to develop before the first public release, but the project has already come a long way from the original idea.

I plan to release the project publicly and for free as soon as it reaches a state that I consider ready for release.

As development continues, I also plan to share more information, screenshots, updates, configuration examples, and details about the systems being developed.

Feedback and Community

If you're also a Rust Legacy fan, I'd be happy to hear your thoughts.

Feedback about the maps is very welcome, as well as suggestions for the project, information about old Rust mechanics, memories from the early versions of the game, and ideas that could be interesting for this modified version.

There is still plenty of work ahead, and I plan to share more information as development continues.

Thanks for checking out the project!
